It’s been a while since my last post.  Work has kept me busy and distracted.  And now for a distraction from that…What better place to find distractions than Ikea?  I was there last week to pick up a shelf for my office.  I arrived at 9, when only the cafeteria is open, and after sipping on some tasty free coffee and flipping through the pages of the catalog, I made my way to the bathroom.

Design – 4 It seems there are parallels between Ikea and Starbucks (see previous post) when it comes to the relationship of their image and their bathrooms.  In spite of Ikea being known for their particular design aesthetic, it all goes out the window once you traverse that extra long corridor and push through the swinging doors.  On a long shopping day you could get confused and think you were in the TJ Maxx bathroom instead.

Cleanliness – 8 Again, at the start of the business day, all was fairly clean, though some corners were suspect.

Layout – 6 Expansive, but didn’t seem to take full advantage of it.  Men’s rooms never have perks.

Extra Credit – 9 Baby jump seat in the handicapped stall.  Instill crippling images into your child’s brain as they watch you on the bowl.

Located in the West Village, ‘snice is all you could ask for in a little neighborhood coffee shop, big wooden tables, tasty coffee, slight vegan girls serving robust vegan sandwiches, etc.  After a big cup, you’ll inevitable need to walk to the restroom…

Design – 6 A raw combination of maybe one material too many, red brick, blue tile, and concrete.  It makes for a challenging canvas for graffiti.

Cleanliness – 7 Tidy vegan maintenance, tidy vegan customers.

Layout – 8 Roomy standard one person bathroom.

Extra Credit – 9 Graffiti on the ductwork and all over the door frames.  The words “TOILET PUNISHER” scratched into the concrete wall.  Rolls of toilet paper hanging on plumbing pipe protruding of the wall.

Normally I wouldn’t post so many photos for one bathroom but I felt the urgent need to show you all the glory that is the graffiti filled Think Coffee bathroom. Just look at the ceiling, in one shot you have infinity, satan, a random (?) number, watercolor-ish, moldy looking graffiti, and an advertisement to book gigs for your band.

Did you enjoy that little graffiti wonderland? I did. The coffee is pretty good here too.

Design – 9 The striking royal blue makes for a strong background to the bombardment of graffiti that piles on relentlessly.  I appreciate how they just give in to the graffiti.

Cleanliness – 5 A little dirtier than you’d expect based on the main room, but traffic is very heavy.

Layout – 5 Nothing extraordinary.  Single person bathroom, the flusher is easy to kick……you don’t flush with your hands do you?

Extra Credit –  7 A full length mirror to make sure you don’t have tp hanging out of your clothes.
